Paul Ehrlich was a Nobel Prize-winning German medical scientist and founder of chemotherapy. He made outstanding contributions to immunology and chemotherapy and discovered “Salvarsan,” an effective syphilis treatment.

While the drug created controversy and almost ruined Ehrlich’s reputation, its less toxic replacement “Neo-Salvarsan” became the standard treatment for syphilis until penicillin was discovered.
