Life

Coypel was born in Paris on 11 July 1694 to a highly successful and influential family of history painters.

His grandfather, Noël Coypel, had been Director of the French Academy in Rome as well as the Académie Royale de Peinture et de Sculpture.^[2]Antoine Coypel, Charles-Antoine's father, received numerous commissions from the French Royal Family, particularly Philippe II, Duke of Orléans.
