Benedetto Croce was an Italian idealist philosopher, historian, literary critic, publicist, and politician.
He was born on February 25, 1866, in Pescasseroli, near L'Aquila, Italy, into a family that owned lands in the central part of the country.

Croce lived in Naples and received his education at the University of Naples. However, he became disillusioned with university education and pursued self-education.
